Dermabrasion is a skincare treatment that uses a device to exfoliate the skin deeply. The dermabrasion process gently removes the outermost layer of the skin and allows a new, smoother layer to grow in its place. Dr. Richard H. Lee offers dermabrasion to patients across Southern California from his Newport Beach office.

What Is Dermabrasion?

Dermabrasion is a professional skin treatment that can target common skin concerns. It is an exfoliating technique to remove the outer layer of skin and is primarily used on the face. While you can exfoliate with certain skincare products or devices, dermabrasion offers a far deeper level of exfoliation.

Through dermabrasion, the outer layer of your skin will be removed. Although this may sound scary, it is done gently, and numbing cream may be used to ensure you are completely safe and comfortable. We utilize the Dermasweep microneedling machine, for impressive results that will enhance your look.

What Can Dermabrasion Address?

Dermabrasion can be used to address several common skin concerns and help skin become smoother and more rejuvenated. Some of the most common skin conditions that dermabrasion can address include:

  • Acne scars
  • Age spots
  • Fine lines
  • Sun damage
  • Dark spots
  • Wrinkles
  • Scars
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Skin texture

Who Is a Candidate for Dermabrasion?

If you are experiencing skin concerns of almost any kind, you may be a candidate for dermabrasion. Because the treatment can address a wide range of skin concerns, many patients benefit.

Specific skin conditions may interfere with dermabrasion or cause you not to be a good candidate. To determine if you are a candidate, Dr. Lee will examine your skin ask you some questions about your skin and medical history. To schedule your consultation, contact our office today.

Why Choose Dr. Lee?

Dr. Richard H. Lee is a highly trained plastic surgeon located in Newport Beach, California. While you have many options when looking for a skincare treatment provider, it is important to select one with experience and provide safe and effective treatment.

Dr. Lee has been practicing for over 15 years and has a deep understanding of facial anatomy and structure. He thoroughly vets each treatment he offers to ensure he provides his patients with the best possible treatments.

Dr. Lee is also board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, which distinguishes him from other surgeons within the area. This certification is only given to those who have passed rigorous testing and demonstrated their surgical abilities.

How Dermabrasion is Performed

Before your treatment, you will be given a form of anesthesia or a sedative to ensure you remain comfortable and do not experience any pain. This may make you feel drowsy or tired but will cause you to relax. Once this has taken effect, your skin will be held taut. Then the dermabrasion device, a dermabrader, will be moved across your skin. The device may be moved in circles over large areas of skin, while for smaller areas, just the tip may be used. Once this is complete, the areas will be covered with a moist dressing.

After Your Treatment

Dr. Lee will provide you with complete home-care instructions, including how and when to change your dressings. Some patients choose to remain at home for two weeks due to redness. You may be red or pink for several weeks and may experience some swelling. Over the next several months, your skin will begin to heal, and after that, you will begin to see your results.
