A facelift can help you turn back the clock and restore a more youthful appearance. Your facelift procedure can achieve comprehensive rejuvenation results throughout the face and neck regions, helping you look and feel your best. While many non-surgical facial rejuvenation options can help you temporarily reverse the signs of aging, none of these solutions can achieve the customized, long-lasting results provided by a facelift. Many of Dr. Lee’s facelift patients find that they look 10-15 years younger after their procedure.

What Can a Facelift Address?

One of the most significant benefits of a facelift is its ability to help you reverse a wide range of facial aging signs. Your procedure can address:

  • Marionette lines (lines extending from the corners of your mouth to your chin)
  • Sagging facial skin and muscles
  • Deep creases across the face
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Sagging in the middle portion of your face
  • Jowls
  • Fallen fat and tissue
  • Hollows underneath the eyes
  • Banding in the neck region
  • The appearance of a double chin
  • Deep facial folds near the mouth

Dr. Lee’s goal is to create a natural, younger-looking appearance. To achieve this natural look, he makes it a point to avoid having facial skin pulled too tight. This ensures you retain your unique, beautiful appearance. You’ll simply look like a younger version of yourself.

Ideal Facelift Candidates

You are most likely a good facelift candidate if you:

  • Are in good overall health
  • Have realistic expectations for the outcome of your procedure
  • Prefer highly customized, long-lasting results instead of the temporary outcome provided by nonsurgical facial rejuvenation options
  • Experience one or more of the signs of facial aging discussed above
  • Don’t smoke or are willing to quit before surgery and throughout the recovery period

Your Treatment Options

It’s important to understand that while a facelift provides comprehensive results, it is primarily intended to address the signs of aging in the mid-to-lower portions of your face and the neck region. If you are mainly concerned with reversing the signs of aging around the eyes or in the forehead region, Dr. Lee may recommend one of the following procedures to achieve your goals more effectively:

In some instances, Dr. Lee will perform these procedures in conjunction with a facelift for more comprehensive facial rejuvenation results. Non-surgical solutions such as dermal fillers can also be used with a facelift to restore lost facial volume, enhancing your results.

Your Customized Facelift Procedure

Your facelift will be performed under general anesthesia. While the procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis, many patients choose to spend a night at the surgical center so that the medical staff can monitor their progress. Dr. Lee understands that everyone has unique facial features and experiences signs of facial aging in different ways. Therefore, he will customize your facelift to ensure it addresses the specific signs of aging impacting your appearance. With traditional facelift surgery, Dr. Lee makes an incision within the hairline, beginning at the temple, extending around the ear, and ending in the lower scalp.

He will alter the incision patterns as necessary based on the facelift technique being used and your unique aesthetic goals. Once Dr. Lee has made the necessary incisions, he eliminates excess skin, tightens the supporting muscle and tissue structures, and pulls the remaining skin taut, as necessary. He then closes the incisions with sutures, staples, or surgical tape. Sutures will be removed within 7-10 days after surgery. Addressing Mild to Moderate Issues

A less extensive facelift procedure is ideal for some patients who are experiencing mild to moderate facial aging, fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. This procedure can be customized to your specific needs and skin qualities. The surgery will be performed with either general or local anesthesia, before a series of easily concealed incisions enable Dr. Lee to lift and reposition your underlying facial tissues for a more youthful look. Your recovery period will only last between 10 and 14 days, making this a great option for active patients who are interested in addressing less extensive facial aging.

Facelift Techniques Used by Dr. Lee

Dr. Lee uses several different facelift techniques, including:

  • Full facelift – This technique provides the most comprehensive facial rejuvenation results, addressing the middle and lower regions of your face as well as any signs of aging in the neck.
  • Mid-facelift – This technique addresses signs of aging in the central face region, including your cheeks.
  • Mini facelift – This technique won’t deliver as comprehensive results as a full facelift. It is a great option for individuals who are just starting to develop the early signs of facial aging and don’t require a full facelift to achieve their goals.

Facelift Recovery and Post-Operative Care

If you’re having your surgery performed on an outpatient basis, make sure to arrange for someone to drive you home since you’ll still be experiencing the lingering effects of anesthesia. Dr. Lee will provide you with complete recovery instructions before your procedure.

You’ll experience some swelling and bruising after your procedure. These symptoms are usually worst 2-3 days after surgery, and they will subside after about ten days. Dr. Lee will place a bandage and a neck-compression strap over your face on the first day after surgery. You can take this bandage off in 48 hours to shower.

Sleep on your back, with your head, elevated on two pillows for one week following surgery. This will help reduce swelling. You’ll also want to keep your incisions out of the sun for about a year after facelift surgery. This will help prevent the development of red, raised, and irritated scars.

In general, you should be able to resume all regular activities within 2-3 weeks. However, you will need to refrain from strenuous exercise until Dr. Lee clears you to participate in these activities. It’s important to be patient after surgery. It may take several months before you see your final results.
