What is SELPHYL® PRFM?

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, contains unique proteins called growth factors. These tiny healing cells can encourage the body to grow and form new cells, stimulating tissue generation and repair to provide skin rejuvenation and restoration wherever they’re injected. We draw a small amount of blood and place the sample into a centrifuge, processing it to help separate it into distinct layers. After collecting the platelets and plasma in the upper part of the test tube, we infuse the skin, scalp, or other areas of the body with tissue damage. These concentrated growth factors then encourage the damaged areas to begin cell production.

How Does SELPHYL® PRFM Work?

PRFM elevates the rejuvenating effects of PRP. By taking these same blood cells and spinning them in the centrifuge at a lower speed, the layers of the blood will separate less and retain some of the white blood cells and stem cells in the upper platelet layer.

When the blood is purified to its highest levels using the SELPHYL® PRFM process, PRP is converted to PRFM. The platelets become highly concentrated and create a scaffold to protect and preserve the platelets, providing the most significant healing benefits possible.

What’s the difference between PRFM and PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin matrix are both superior options for healing. They’re from the same blood cells, and they can both be used to treat the following:

  • Hair loss
  • Hair volume loss
  • Aging and sagging skin
  • Loss of elasticity and collagen
  • Scarring, acne scars, and keloids
  • Stretchmarks and fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Complexion tone and texture issues

Both treatment options have the same procedure length, are non-surgical, and require little-to-no downtime. Both can be performed once a month for the first few months and tapered off. Results typically appear two or three months after the first treatment and continue to improve for up to one year.

However, because the PRFM is spun at a lower speed, there are more growth factors in PRFM than in PRP. The lower spin speed also causes less trauma to the individual blood cells, allowing more healthy stem cells to remain in the final PRF product.

PRFM is considered more effective and powerful than traditional PRP for the following reasons:

  • Platelet-rich fibrin matrix is more stable, so it lasts longer
  • PRP is usually productive for one day, while PRFM encourages healing for up to one week
  • Sustained production of new cells and renewed blood flow delivers unmatched results
  • Many PRP systems have varying results and extensive contamination with red and white blood cells, but SELPHYL® removes virtually all contaminating cells for consistent results

SELPHYL® Benefits

SELPHYL® PRFM safely and effectively treats a wide range of conditions. It’s a non-surgical alternative to hair restoration by naturally stimulating stem-cell development and extending the growth cycle. PRFM is also a non-surgical method for rejuvenating the skin by restoring volume and radiance while softening wrinkles and fine lines caused by aging.

More SELPHYL® benefits include the following:

    • PRFM is derived from your blood cells, so there’s no risk of an allergic reaction
    • No need for testing or a trial period
    • Increased cell generation
    • Improved new blood vessel development
    • Slow and steady release optimizes the healing potential of PRFM

What happens during SELPHYL® PRFM treatments?

The entire procedure lasts approximately half an hour. We’ll take a small amount of your blood into a vacuum collection tube containing cell separator gel. This tube is placed in a centrifuge and spun for six minutes to separate the blood from the red and white cells below the separator gel. Platelets and plasma are transferred to a second tube containing a stabilizer; approximately ten minutes later, PRFM is formed and can be injected as needed.

Because SELPHYL® PRFM is derived from your biological material and contains no animal or synthetic products, there is little risk of allergic reaction or adverse effects. As with all cosmetic injections, you may experience the following mild and temporary side effects at the injection site:

    • Irritation
    • Redness
    • Swelling
    • Bruising
    • Itching
    • Discoloration
    • Tenderness
