What Is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure designed to correct issues with the labia majora (outer vaginal lips) and the labia minora (inner vaginal lips). By performing this completely customized procedure, Dr. Lee can alter the size, thickness or shape of the labia by making them smaller or more symmetrical.
Benefits of Labia Reduction Surgery
The decision to undergo labia reduction surgery is a very personal one. The procedure can provide comfort and confidence without sacrificing sexual ability or sensitivity.
There are several reasons why women choose to have labiaplasty performed, and the benefits of the procedure are numerous. These include:
- Easing emotional discomfort with intimate partners
- Reducing embarrassment when wearing a bathing suit or form fitting clothes
- Correcting hygienic problems
- Minimizing irritation caused by protrusion
- Improving sexual stimulation by addressing excessive clitoral covering
- Decreasing discomfort when participating in sports, exercise or other recreational activities
Candidates for Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty is a relatively minor procedure, and most healthy adult women are eligible for the surgery. Generally speaking, you may be a good candidate for labiaplasty if you:
- Feel self-conscious or uncomfortable during sex
- Experience pain or discomfort during physical activities, such as cycling
- Don’t wear attire such as swim suits or tight pants because they are too revealing
The only way to truly know whether labia reduction surgery is right for you is to meet personally with Dr. Lee for a confidential consultation. He has helped many women improve the appearance of their vaginal lips and understands what a deeply personal issue it can be for patients. He will evaluate your condition and overall candidacy for the procedure. He will answer your questions, address your concerns and explain all of your options.

How Long Does the Labiaplasty Procedure Take?
Labiaplasty can take between one and two hours. Much of this is dependent on the issues being addressed and the current state of your labial tissue.
While procedural steps are similar, each labiaplasty is different. The best way to learn how long your procedure may take is through a one-on-one consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
How Long Does it Take to Recover from a Labiaplasty Procedure?
Labiaplasty will require a short recovery period during which activities will need to be limited. Most women are able to resume non-demanding activities within one to two weeks. More strenuous activities, such as sexual intercourse and advanced exercise, may need to be avoided for up to six weeks. This is, however, different for every patient.
You play a direct role in your recovery experience. Carefully following pre and postoperative directions will help to guard against complications while allowing your body to recover from labiaplasty. During your follow-up visits, we can help you determine when it is okay to resume specific activities.
How can I Prepare for a Labiaplasty Procedure?
In preparation for labiaplasty, you will need to cease taking any medications, supplements, or herbs that can thin the blood and encourage bruising. If you are a smoker, you will need to quit at least six weeks in advance of your procedure to safeguard against infection, poor wound healing, and visible scarring, all of which nicotine can cause.
There will be limitations on what you can eat and drink in the hours leading up to your procedure, along with specific considerations that will need to be made in order to help ensure the most pleasing experience and outcomes.
We will help you prepare, answer any questions you may have, and make sure you are ready on the day of your labiaplasty procedure.
What Kind of Anesthesia is Used During the Labiaplasty Procedure?
Labiaplasty can be performed under localized anesthetic or general anesthesia. Which option is best for your needs is entirely dependent on you.
Dr. Lee performs all of his labiaplasty procedures in our clean, private, and welcoming on-site AAAHC-accredited surgical facility. This allows him to provide the most effective techniques and meet the highest of standards, helping to keep you safe and comfortable at all times while in our care.
How Soon After Giving Birth can I Have Labiaplasty?
It is best to wait at least six months after giving birth to undergo labiaplasty. However, this does not mean that all women are ready six months postpartum.
Several factors, including your general health, your future plans, and your readiness for a surgical procedure and recovery period will play significant roles in your candidacy as well.
