One of the more important cosmetic procedures offered by experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Lee is breast reconstruction after cancer removal surgery. Women who are cancer survivors are often left stripped of their self-confidence and healthy self-image after having their breasts removed. Dr. Lee takes great pride helping to restore that confidence in women and give them back an important aspect of their feminine identity.

The procedure itself begins with anesthesia. Options include general anesthesia and intravenous sedation with local anesthesia; most patients require general.

Technique options will largely depend on the specific needs of the patient. Most patients require some form of the flap method, which is the process of adding autologous tissue to the chest wall. There are several ways to go about this method, all of which involve harvesting tissue from a donor site.

Once that process is complete, the process of tissue expansion may begin. This requires a temporary implant to be filled slowly over time to allow for an easier recovery. Once the desired size is reached, final implants can be inserted.
