Face Lift / Eye Surgery Newport Beach
No one can completely stop the natural aging process. Over time, the body gradually produces less collagen and elastin, two proteins that are essential for healthy skin. As this occurs, the skin loses its elastic quality and begins to sag. As time passes, fat becomes displaced, and muscle tone is lost. When these factors converge, visible signs of aging develop throughout the face.
Although no one can halt the aging process, Newport Beach facelift surgeon Dr. Richard H. Lee can certainly stave off the visible signs of facial aging. Dr. Lee has helped countless patients look younger and feel more rejuvenated with facelift surgery.
Dr. Lee performs the full spectrum of facial rejuvenation surgery, including facelift, brow lift, upper and lower eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty and facial fat transfer (i.e., injecting your own fat taken from another area of the body into certain areas of the face) to restore lost volume. He can perform each procedure by itself, or in conjunction with another facial rejuvenation procedure.
With facelift surgery, the objective is to restore the skin and muscle tone as well as to redistribute the fat and tissue that have migrated out of their proper place. Dr. Lee’s goal as a talented Newport Beach plastic surgeon is to create a natural, younger-looking appearance. To achieve a natural look, the patient must avoid appearing as if the facial skin has been pulled too tight. Dr. Lee makes it a point to ensure that patients retain their unique, beautiful look, so that they still look like themselves — only better.
What to Expect During Facelift Surgery
Although facelift surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis, many patients choose to stay the first night following the procedure at the surgical center, so the medical staff can monitor their progress.
After general anesthesia has been administered to ensure the patient is at ease and does not feel anything during the procedure, Dr. Lee starts facelift surgery by making the needed incisions. The chosen incision pattern varies, depending on the extent of the patient’s anatomical needs and aesthetic desires.
For instance, individuals who desire a lifted eyebrow line and a smoother forehead require an incision within the upper region of the hairline, so Dr. Lee can access the skin, muscle and tissue structures in the upper area of the face. Patients who would like a more refreshed look throughout their eyes require an incision in the crease of the upper eyelid or just under the lower eyelid or both, depending which part of the eye they would like to address. Individuals who long for a more youthful look throughout the chin and neck area usually require an incision that starts in the front of the earlobe and continues around the back of the ear, terminating in the lower scalp.
With traditional facelift surgery, Dr. Lee makes an incision within the hairline, beginning at the temple, extending around the ear and ending in the lower scalp.
Once the Orange County facelift expert has made the necessary incisions, he eliminates excess skin, tightens the supporting muscle and tissue structures, and pulls the remaining skin taut, as necessary. He then closes the incisions with sutures, staples and / or surgical tape. He will remove any sutures within 7 to 10 days after surgery, in the office.

What is the youngest age that you will perform a facelift? There is no absolute cut off with regard to age. Although, most facelifts are done between the ages of 40 and 75, younger patients are candidates if they had extreme weight loss which makes them appear older with a lot of excess skin around their face and loss of facial volume.
Do hairlines shift after a facelift?Although hairlines can shift if done by surgeons who don’t know what they are doing, special care to avoid hairline movement during surgery can make a big difference.

Mini facelift vs. Facelift?A mini facelift addresses very early signs of aging and can be beneficial to people who have minimal sag to their mid and lower face. Full facelift addresses moderate signs of aging with moderate amount of skin sag. Often, the problem is that surgeons will promise mini facelifts to patients who need a full facelift in exchange for promises of less down time and less cost. However, these patients go onto having relapse of saggy skin within 6 months and go onto have full facelift with more downtime and more expense.
Is it possible to liposuction the face?It is possible to liposuction certain areas of the face to contour certain areas in the setting of a facelift. Neck liposuction can be done on its own as long as the skin overlying the area is tight and will shrink to show off the new contour. If you have loose skin and try to liposuction any area including the face, you can end up with either more loose skin or not much difference after the procedure.
I only want my neck improved. Is that possible without a facelift? If you have fat that can be liposuctioned with enough elasticity for the area to shrink back without the possibility of ending up with loose skin then yes. If you have loose skin that needs to be addressed then no.
Can I have other procedures done at the same time?Facelifts are commonly done with other procedures like eyelid surgery, browlift, fat injections to the face, and dermabrasion or fillers. Other procedures in addition to the facelift is possible as long as the time in the operating does not exceed what is necessary to ensure safety.
Do patients ever need a second facelift?Depending on age, elasticity and genetics there may be need for further surgery. Usually facelifts should last anywhere from five to ten years. It varies greatly from person to person depending on a variety of factors including age, skin elasticity, concurrent health problems, smoking, tanning, weight fluctuations.

Why does choosing a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon matter?Plastic surgeons certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery are the only board certified plastic surgeons who are approved to perform cosmetic surgery by the American Board of Medical Specialties. This is because the American Board of Plastic Surgery certifies surgeons who have gone to four years of medical school, 6-9 years of residency training in an accredited plastic surgery training program, and two years of private practice experience.
